Augustin Daoust (2)
(1822 - )
Augustin Daoust, the son of Augustin and Marie Louise Charbonneau was born in St Eustache on October 7, 1822.  In 1815, his parents had inherited from Joseph Charbonneau and Marie Chartrand, his grandparents, a piece of land located on Cote St Louis.  This is probably where he grew up - at least until September 15,1832 when his father passed away. His older brother, Claude had married earlier that summer and had likely left home.  His younger and only sister, Rosianne was three at the time.  Marie Louise was left a widow with two children to take care of.  She remarried a year later on May 28, 1833.   Her new husband was Pierre Charles-Lajeunesse.  She would spend the rest of her life with him (they are buried together in the cemetery of the parish of St Augustin - a breakaway parish of St Eustache established in 1840).  Several years later, Pierre was present at the marriages of both Augustin and Rosianne.  I haven't found a sales document for the previously mentioned land on Cote St Louis owned by Marie Louise nor documents showing that her new husband was a landowner before the marriage.  A document from 1839 states however that Pierre Charles Lajeunesse was residing  on Cote St Louis. It is possible that they lived on the aforementioned lot..
These are our ancestors that were living during the turbulent times that led to the Rebellion of 1837. AND they were actually living in the parish of St Eustache where one of the key battles of the uprising took place!!  Augustin was 15 years old on Thursday, December 14th 1837.  Not old enough to be involved but his stepfather, Pierre was listed as sympathetic to the Patriots!

On September 19th 1842, Augustin Daoust at the age of 20 married Olive Gratton, the daughter of Joseph Graton and Jossephte Fortier residents of Ste Therese de Blainville. They would have 14 children: 9 girls and  5 boys all born and baptized in the parish of St Augustin, a little north of St Eustache in the county of  Two Mountains.
